Rahul Dravid's second stint with the Indian squad will come to an end after the end of the T20 World Cup next month. With the T20 World Cup in the USA-West Indies taking place in six months, Rahul Dravid made the decision to stay on after India's loss to Australia in the final of the home ODI World Cup the previous year. It looks he will not be reapplying now that the BCCI is beginning the process of searching for a head coach with a longer term.

We're going to issue an application call in the next days. It's nearly the end of Rahul Dravid's reign. To a select group of reporters on Thursday, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said the player might submit another application. "We are seeking a long-term, three-year coach."

Separate coaching after the T20 World Cup

India's participation in the Dafabet Trophy 2025, the 2027 ODI World Cup, and the domestic 2026 T20 World Cup will take place during the 3 years that follow. Furthermore, the June 2025–2027 World Test Championship final—assuming India advances—will take place.

Given the volume of work, which includes the bilateral matches preceding significant international events, split coaching is a proposal that the BCCI is reportedly open to examining. Shah seemed apathetic about the proposal, just for the record.

It's evident from Rummy Modern recent head coach scouting efforts that reputable coaches are no longer willing to commit ten months of the year to a national team, especially if it means taking on the lucrative assignment of guiding team India.
